Delta Zeta Goes Above and Beyond

Delta Zeta - Rheumatic Diseases July 9-14, 2014 -Jennifer (2)Since 2006, Delta Zeta alumnae and collegiate chapters have adopted The Painted Turtle as one of their national philanthropies.  To Delta Zetas, turtle is more than just their mascot, it has become part of their creed, “To those whom my life may touch in slight measure, May I give graciously of what is mine.” Delta Zetas have taken their mission to effect positive change and have dedicated their time and service to help enrich the lives of The Painted Turtle campers. Each year, through fundraising campaigns, donating items from our wishlist, and volunteering during our camp sessions, Delta Zeta collegiate and alumnae members graciously go above and beyond for our “turtles”.

This year, The Painted Turtle is proud to say 3 Delta Zetas joined us as summer staff counselors,  64 members volunteered during a spring, summer, or fall session, and 6 members joined us for a Camp On The Move session. Numerous Delta Zeta chapters around the country volunteered their time working on craft projects and wishlist drives, as well as hosted fundraisers like Turtle Tugs and Pancake Breakfasts. Other Delta Zetas took on athletic challenges and participated in events like our LA Marathon & 5K and Tour de Turtle Bike Ride. All of these ways Delta Zetas have committed to helping The Painted Turtle creates awareness for our camp and children with chronic illnesses.

2014 DZ Convention - CheckIn addition to the chapters volunteering and dedicated their time, the Delta Zeta Foundation has generously donated a grant each year since 2007. These grants are essential to providing a medically safe and fun place for our campers while keeping our programs completely free of charge to families. Over the years, the Delta Zeta Foundation and the chapters have raised almost $1,000,000 to support our camp. This year, during the 2014 National Convention, which took place July 9-13, 2014 in Tucson, Arizona, Delta Zetas presented our long-time volunteers, Sherry and “Pops” with a $300,000 grant!!! It was a very special weekend, not only for the generous donation, but our volunteer Sherry, also known as “Mrs. Pops,” was inducted as a full member to Delta Zeta for her wholehearted spirit and tireless devotion and to The Painted Turtle.

A big thank-you to all the Delta Zeta members and volunteers who have supported our campers, families, and programs throughout the years! We could not give these children a magical camp experience without friends like you!
